My daughter has this cute little doll Lego, and just knew I wanted her to get married…and the only other Lego I could find with a tuxedo was Mickey Mouse. It’s the Mickey Mouse from the first cartoon Disney made, and I think they make a cute pair!

I used my LED light and flashlight (with a long carton tube, this focused the light) to light the toys, and I used my wedding tricks to photograph them.

My original idea was to photograph Mickey Mouse and Petunia (I am calling her Petunia) in a water droplet, and it turned out it is impossible…I guess I am going it wrong if it is not the case…hehehe. I then improvised by placing the subjects underneath the glass table and I made 2 big droplets on the table and I photographed their faces in these droplets. I also tried suspending them in the air underneath the table, and it resulted in very moody misty photos…which is also a cool effect. I also then improvised by placing the subjects on the glass table with droplets and I then placed color squares underneath to get the color pattern from the squares displayed in the droplets. I got this idea from Jacki Bruniquel a while ago and I have been dying to try this technique. This is magic and I love the results!

For the other photos I went around in my yard to photograph them. I used my LED light to light the subjects and I played around with my flashlight with effects. The carton tube, which focused the light, made for really interesting photos, and I also used a pattern with the photos at the end…if you light into a paper with cut-out stripes…then you get stripes in the shadows. The is easily done with a Magmod system, but I dont have the patterns. (yet)

Ryno and Simone | Urban couple shoot | Parkhurst

Ryno and Simoné beautiful urban coupe shoot in Parkhurst was so much fun!

I hosted a little competition on my Facebook page and Simone was one of the 2 winners!

Originally I wanted to create a super romantic Valentines Day shoot on a rooftop, but due to circumstances I postponed and postponed, up until I said to Simone let’s just do a normal Urban couple shoot. I am so glad we ended up doing an urban shoot because Ryno and Simone are such naturals. They were keen for me to experiment a lot, which I loved, because during couple shoots I have less stress to provide “perfect wedding or engagement” photos but rather very creative and personal photos for them as a couple. I am not saying that I dont create super cool photos for my clients during engagement shoots or weddings but rather that the stress to create them is less. (So I can play a bit more and experiment a bit more…which I love). I also use these platforms to practice shots I would not dare to try during a wedding shoot due to the time limit and error factor…during a wedding I can’t make mistakes!

We went to Parkhurst for photos in the streets, and Ryno and Simone are such a cool couple. They are not engaged…well not yet…wink wink. It’s actually quite funny how many people responded on the photos “I see wedding bells in the distance…!”

They looked absolutely beautiful and so much in love!

I met Hennie and Béhanke at the Admired in Africa #beInspired 2018 conference and they were one of the model couples for the last day's workshop. I just knew I had to do a photoshoot with them, and I really wanted to do the shoot at beautiful Shepstone Gardens...and amazingly it's the venue they really want to say their I-do's one day! Some call it coincidence or destiny...I call it an act of God. I just love it when I meet likeminded people who love Jesus as much as I do, and especially when their love is rooted in Him.

May your love always be rooted in Him!

Every now and then I have a crazy idea to create cool photos...well this was one of them.

I went past the Johannesburg Botanical Gardens one winter morning and saw the mist and said to myself I want to do a couple shoot there early one morning to catch the mist. I knew it will be cold, and it had to be, otherwise there will not be mist....well...I didn't know its going to be this cold. It was absolutely freezing....and I love how the mist and frost accentuates the fact that it's freezing cold!  

Another thing I misjudged was that I thought the sun would rise at around 6am, but in fact it rose at 7am...so we ended up creating a few images before sunrise.

Tebogo and Lihle, thank you for embracing the cold with me! Your chemistry and love is sweet and may it be rooted in the One Above!

I had the pleasure of creating some urban portraits with Dené Vorster at Sandton City's parking area this week and I just loved working with her! She is a down-to-earth powerhouse and I believe she is going to go far with her music! 

I just LOVE sunsets in Johannesburg, especially in Winter because the sun turns almost red, and the sun didn't disappoint. 

Dené entered into Idols SA Season 7 and reached the top 8 during this particular season...amazing achievement! Her music style is R&B/Soul and her music is amazing! Here's a link to her version of Adele's "Someone Like You" at the Idols Competition. (Click here)

Portrait shoot with Annarika | SARIE Voorbladgesig | Hertford Country Hotel

Annerike is such a beautiful soul inside and out. She asked me to do some portraits for her because she wanted to enter into the SARIE Voorbladgesig competition.

Annerike is such a beautiful soul inside and out. She asked me to do some portraits for her because she wanted to enter into the SARIE Voorbladgesig competition (PLEASE Click on the link to vote for her!!). 

I had such a wonderful time with her and she is so elegant and easy to photograph. I had some modelling and styling help from Missy. (thank you Missy...almost 90% of the shots were directed by Missy!!) Missy also did the make-up for the shoot and she is most probably the best out there! Her company is Missy Make Up Artist and another amazing thing about Missy is that her own make-up is always done so she doesn't mind to be in the photographs. :)

I always love shooting at Hertford Country Hotel. The venue is painted white on the inside so the creative opportunities in their spaces are endless. If you use off-camera flash the space even doubles up as a studio! Amazing. 

I used a single flash setup. I used my Softbox for Speedlights and Nikon SB-910 flash with Phottix triggers on a lightstand and I used what they call butterfly lighting. The softbox was directly in front of the Annarike's face pointing slightly downward, so the light created a slight shadow under her nose. There were ambient light coming in from her left (photo right). I also tried to point the flash directly into her face so I moved the softbox around depending on how Annarike were standing.
